We got our little black lab puppy on August 26th. She was born on July 10. Her mom was a yellow lab and we believe her dad was a rhodesian ridgeback. Somehow cute black labs came from that. I'll try to update and let you know how things are going with her.

HEIDI!

October 25, 2006 - We have had Heidi penned up in our kitchen for almost two months using baby gates. She has really enjoyed being in the house, but I was about to go crazy. She spent time in the backyard and in the kitchen. She is pretty much paper trained, except when she pees on a little strip of paper that she tore off the big piece. That's not exactly absorbent enough to do the job.

This week I took the baby gates down and got rid of the paper. She has been really good about going potty outside. Things are really good in the house if Caleb is asleep. Heidi gets really excited when people run. For instance, if I run to grab the phone she jumps up and runs with me. The problem lies in the fact that Caleb is now 3 and he runs EVERYWHERE. Heidi gets very riled up with this and thinks its always play time with Caleb. This results in Caleb getting knocked down and pinned quite often.

Heidi is also coming along in school, again, when Caleb is not around. We are using the book, Family Dog by Richard Wolters, as a guide. She knows sit, stay, come. We are working on heel and kennel. She's a very sweet dog and I am enjoying her so far. This is my first dog EVER, so it was a big transition. That's about it. I'll keep you updated on how things go. I'll post a picture of how big she is now . . . she's growing so fast. Caleb loves to tell people that he has a puppy; that she is a cutie and that she's getting bigger.
